Submit to Ink & Oil
What can I submit?
Before submitting, be sure to read our About page for an understanding of the kind of work we are looking for.
Please send us your most engaging work. Ink & Oil examines all submissions, and publishes the work we deem best. We accept submissions from the Middle East region, North Africa, South and Southeast Asia and its diaspora. All work must align with Kuwait Poets Society values.
We accept poetry, prose, lyrics, translations, creative non-fiction, book reviews, and art. We accept works written in English, Arabic, Urdu, and Farsi.
If requested and accepted by the editor, art can be used to illustrate submitted literary work. If not requested, illustrations will be of their own standing or up to the placement judgment of the editor. Please keep note that all current artwork considered for internal pages will be printed in black and white or grayscale. Submissions for cover art may be in color.
What should I not submit?
We do not accept previously published work.
We do not like to censor any sort of artistic expression, but there are certain topics we do not accept on any scale and will gladly reject. Ink & Oil first and foremost maintains a no-hate safe space platform for artists to express themselves. This means we will not accept submissions that express any racist, sexist, xenophobic, anti-LGBT+, or other intolerant views.
For art, please do not send us extremely explicit work. While we’re sure your art is beautiful we can not print it. Keep in mind the region’s cultural values.

If you wish to withdraw a submission please email us at email@example.com.
When will I hear back about my submission?
In respect to the artists we will try to maintain a swift response time but ask that you be patient as our magazine is run by volunteers. If you have not heard back from us within 6 weeks you may send us a follow up email.
Please make a note in your email of the below challenges / features you would like to submit your work to.
Ekphrastic Challenge Submissions
Every month Ink & Oil will select a visual art piece for poets to respond to. Poets have one month to come up with a piece that reflects the art. The poem will be judged by the Zine Editor and if the visual art should also be a submission, the artist as well. The poem that wins will be featured in our next month’s issue.
We want to hear your voice. Send us your pieces in response to current events. Give us your most emotive and eloquent. Let’s join the discussion.
Kuwait Art & Poetry Submissions
This is a segment for work that captures and reflects the country’s unique aesthetic. Historical, traditional, and modern. We also value work that displays the cultural diversity and coexistence of all people in Kuwait. If you have work that exemplifies this we’d love to publish/print it.
